PES completes Lake Lindsay Dragline for Bucyrus
Power Electric Switchboards has completed the supply of switchboards and motor control centres for the Bucyrus 8750/32 electric walking dragline for Anglo Coal’s Lake Lindsay mine in the Bowen Basin.
The $1 million contract included the supply of:
- Two 415 volt main switchboards
- Seven motor control centres
- Ten distribution boards
- Ten ancillary boards
The 5600 tonne dragline will be Australia’s first alternating current (AC) dragline and will benefit from improved power efficiency and fewer components resulting in less maintenance and downtime.
The dragline is being erected on site at Lake Lindsay mine and will be able to walk itself around the pit using two shoes more than 21 metres long and 4 metres wide. It will feature a boom over 109 metres long and will include more than 28 000 kW of installed motor power.
Lake Lindsay is an open-cut coal mine in the Bowen Basin which is operated and managed by Anglo Coal Australia. The mine adjoins Anglo Coal’s existing German Creek operations and was completed in 2008. Peak mining activities are expected to be reached in 2009, at which time Lake Lindsay’s saleable production will be around 4 Mtpa. It is estimated that the mine contains approximately102 Mt of saleable reserves.
